Why through music?

Most people know the classics. Neil Young, Bryan Adams, Drake.

However, there is a hidden wealth of amazing bands and musicians out there who are very popular in Canada, but haven't quite reached the same level of notoriety abroad yet.

At the bottom of the page, in the Extras section, there are two playlists. One filled with classic Canadian songs, and one filled with artists and bands which may be new.

In fact, there may be a few surprises that you didn't know were actually Canadian.

Journey

Starting on the west coast, and slowly making our way east, we will discover six modern-era bands and artists along the way.

Most of the selected bands are from different regions and different backgrounds. They have different inspirations and different styles.

The first stop is Yukon Blonde, from Kelowna, British Columbia. Next is The Sheepdogs from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Then we have two bands from Ontario. First, the Arkells, from Hamilton, followed by the iconic The Tragically Hip from Kingston. After that, we travel to Montreal, Quebec for Sam Roberts Band, before we finish our journey in Halifax, Nova Scotia with Joel Plaskett.
